Planning A Family Trip To New York City Part 2
Be sure to catch all the fun and excitement from Planning A Family Trip To New York City Part 1
In this part of our series, we will discuss the next couple of days of a perfect family trip to New York City. We will do our best to slow the pace down a little bit and just help us and you enjoy our time in New York City and the truly experience the city.
Day 3 family trip to New York City
This particular day, what we did was, we planned to spend as much time as possible exploring Central Park. And I would recommend that you do the same thing if possible. There is so much to see, so much life to capture, and so much to experience that is certainly worth your time to spend the whole day in Central Park.
A Day in Central Park
Because we are such avid walkers we basically walked around the entire park. We started the morning out walking around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir.
From there we headed to Belvedere Castle and “The Lake” which is home to “The Loeb Boathouse”. From this location, you get to see the lovely Bridges crossing the lake.
You get to see the lovely views of the cityscape over the lake, and of course, you get to see all the people renting a boat for an hour or so getting out for some wonderful scenic beauty and peace.
Then we went over to experience the New York Lawn Bowling Club. That made me feel like I was in The Great Gatsby days or something it was just interesting to experience.
It was so exciting to see the biking club ride their crazy bikes around central park. It could have been the beginning of the 19th century and no one would have known the difference.
Then we took a rest in the Open Fields of Central Park. It was so odd to see such an open area and such a busy crowded City.
And of course, we got to see the iconic Central Park artist busy at his task. This made me feel like I was in Paris.
Those explorations in Central Park took most of the day. Our pace was slow enough to be comfortable and frankly, we just enjoyed the park and a beautiful day.
Evening Falls in New York City Get To Times Square
As the evening was starting to fall on the city, we wanted to be where all the action was near Times Square. We wanted to see the city vibrating with life. At this point of the day, it was time to find a little food and then explore in Times Square as the night time energy and evening lights were coming up. This is certainly where you get the impression that New York City is a city that never sleeps. The energy is constant and exuberant!
While in Times Square be sure to take a look at the shows that are currently available on Broadway. Frankly, the list is a bit overwhelming but again, there is certainly something for everyone. We wanted to go to Wicked but it was a bit out of our price range to bring the family so we eventually decided on an Off-Broadway show.
And of course, we wanted to have a little adult time to ourselves. Gosh, there is something for everyone in this city.
By the end of this day, we were certainly worn out and ready to get back to our hotel for a good night sleep.
Day 4 Family Trip to New York City
New York City Architectural Gems
On the morning of the fourth day, everyone wanted to sleep in a little bit, but I wanted to get out and explore some of the wonderful architectural Treasures of New York City.
St. Patrick’s Cathedral – New York, NY
So I headed out on my own early in the morning for just a couple of hours to attempt to find and capture some of the most amazing pieces of architecture.
Of course, I headed to St. Patrick’s Cathedral as fast as I could. That is the one treasure I had to do everything I could to attempt to capture. The particular summer that we were there they were doing quite a bit of construction on the outside of the building to refurbish the building so I was somewhat limited there but the interior was opened and I was able to sneak inside.
Wow wow wow is all I can say. The place is indeed a National Treasure.
Saint Bartholomew’s Church
I continued my morning exploration and found Saint Bartholomew’s Church.
I ducked inside there also and went about my business capturing it’s beautiful architecture.
It was time for me to head on back and connect up with the family so we could start our days’ adventures through the city.
The United Nations NYC
Our hotel was very close to the UN so we started our morning exploring in the United Nations facilities.
American Museum of Natural History
We headed over to the American Museum of Natural History so we could see the great dinosaur exhibit. What a fantastic Excursion!
Fun in NYC
Everywhere you looked there were vendors selling their wares and people having fun. The expectation of joy was all around us! You could be a true American or Lady Liberty if you wanted to be.
Music Music Music
Our daughter was considering different music schools for college so of course, we had to head over to Juilliard so we could get an idea of what the school was all about.
And then while we were close we headed over to the Lincoln Center just to say we had been to the place.
Hew, another whirlwind of a day but wow had we have seen so much, and so will you!
We will stop now and let you rest from the world wind of activity that is New York City.
